For December's Stone Soup gathering, we switched things up a bit. The soup was all made ahead of time. Instead of soup ingredients, guests brought their favorite festive cookie toppings. Then we spent a ginger-cinna-minty evening gluing our fingers together with icing as we constructed gingerbread houses and decorated a pile of cookies.Nick and I gathered all the building materials ahead of time. I half-sized this template to make mini-houses, and we had the dough baked and arranged into house kits when everyone arrived:
We made up a big batch of icing-mortar and got to work. Even though these were truly cookie-cutter houses, there were plenty of decorative trim pieces to create a custom look:
Here's Nick's chalet with tiled roof and one-of-a-kind chimney.
Mine features a candy-cane arch for a dramatic entrance:
And this one, made by my mom a few days later, has snow-covered bushes, a marshmallow snowman, and a tree that seems to have lost its top in a windstorm:
